Hey, people of Aytos!
I've been in some talks with Mount Augusta (x2600, z2000) regarding rail links, and it appears that Mt. A. would make an ideal start location for a direct diagonal rail line towards Orion, based on CIC standards. The line would head directly north-west from Mt. A. towards Kappi, and from there on to Aytos. Rough plan here: http://tinypic.com/r/zx8r50/8
If you're in need of persuasion, here's some:
CIC Yellow Line, passing through Mt. Augusta, already extends efficiently towards the East, connecting to NDZ and Breslau. CIC Green Line extends efficiently from Aytos to Orion. Both the region around Orion and the region around NDZ and Breslau are well developed with large markets, however the existing rail connections are inefficient and hinder trade.
The current southern connection through Carbon and Carson is inefficient for fast travel, containing multiple stations and taking a long detour. The northern CIC Red suffers from the same problems, and additionally Aurora has collapsed meaning its existence and maintainance might be at risk.
The proposed diagonal rail connection would cut travel time between Orion and Mount Augusta by over 50% as a diagonal path would not only be shorter, but also faster as minecarts travel faster diagonally. Additionally, the travel time from Orion to NDZ or Brelsau and surrounding regions would be cut by over 33% thanks to this shortcut.
The end stations at Aytos and Mt. Augusta would help to develop the two cities as rail hubs, and to improve international trade between the Eastern and Northwestern parts of the world.
/end persuasion
If anyone is willing to potentially provide resources or participate in construction, don't hesitate to contact me. The most crucial resources needed for the project are rails, powered rails, and diamond picks, which will be needed in abundance. If approved, I'll get on with major tunneling after 15th May. Of course the first stage would be to establish the end stations at Aytos and Mt. A.
What do you guys think?
