With the ongoing demolition across the city, I think it's important to recognise what has particular value to Aytos in terms of architectural/cultural heritage. I propose a Heritage Inventory, which will be maintained by the future Planning Department (If such a thing comes into being, that is).
For now it's just for record keeping, though in the future we may want to impose restrictions or protections on buildings in the inventory.
My draft list so far:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Architectural Style: Queen Anne
Structural masonry with decorative timbers and a shingle brick roof. Two large doormer widows protrude from the main gable.
From the early settlement period. Zigzagoonium's house is a particularly lavish example of an early Aytos house.
Empty Promises Press Office (Much Bias)
Architectural Style: Late Victorian
Structural masonry and decorative stonework facade juxtaposed to a light timber frame.
From the economic boom period. A prominant example of larger construction during a period of population and economic expansion.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Architectural Style: Post Modern Mixed Neoclassical
Structural masonry with load bearing support posts. Variety of decorative glazings, openings and cornices.
From the contention period. The Orion Embassy is an unusual example of international involvement in Aytos during the well publicised period of political strife.
Designer: Gurubashi Owner: Orion City(?)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Architectural Style: Stripped Classical Palladian
Structural sandstone block and subsidary structual quartz pillars. Extensive glazing, and flat brick tiled roof.
From the contention period. A large example of a mansion from foreign land purchase and investment.
