Government of Aquila - Now and the Future
Post Body

Due to some recent discussion in Discord, it has been determined by general consensus that it is a good idea to do the following:

Declare the current government provisional until a week following the server launch

Before you get your pitch forks and torches out, here is why:

  • A lot can change between now and a week following server launch. Current date for launch is set at July 16th, but as we all know, nothing is certain.

  • In the initial weeks of the server, we could see an influx of citizens of a significant number, and not allowing those new citizens input in the initial government of Aquila would not be fair and would make it too difficult for their input to be used, driving them away from the city.

  • We cannot know who from those that are here now will actually be active, so current structures may prove inefficient.

Overall, solidifying government right now could prove detrimental to our city, so in the spirit of success, this is the best way to go.

But Jay, how is that fair for the people that have been elected into the government as of now?

It absolutely isn't, which is why I propose the following solution:

A week following launch, we will conduct two votes. One vote will be to decide if we want our constitution to remain the same or to change, another to determine if we should redo the EC elections.

If either of those votes were to pass, they will then continue with a second vote, ratifying a new draft of the constitution or electing a new EC. Until then, the current constitution and EC are valid and should be treated as such.

I understand not everyone will agree with this, but it is the most reasonable compromise I can make between those that want to dissolve what we have created so far and those that just want to keep it entirely. All I am trying to do is make sure everyone's voice is heard, which, in the spirit of our nation is something we want to take pride in.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask away. The exact procedures we will use have not been decided, so all suggestions are welcome.

Also, on a personal note, I would like to declare my interest in the position of Chief Justice, given my knack for mediating and coming to compromising solutions.

I'm excited to create a city with all of you, we just need to make sure we do it right.
