Map Editor Concerns, Need Help (powerlines, and water flow directions)

Hey! As the post mentions, I'm having issues placing power lines. The issue is that they just don't connect with each other! The power pylons I place do not connect at all, and I'm struggling to figure out why. I can't figure out the water pipes situation either.
Ontop of that, when trying to create a giant river basin with islands, I did use the border river water option, but once the water settles, it has no flow direction. Absolutely none. I want to at least offer some flow. How do I change this?
