Issue connecting usb storage on cinnamon?

Fixed! See edit4

Hello all!

I was wondering if anyone else has ran into this issue using Cinnamon. This started happening lately and I cannot seem to find a fix for it.

Whenever I connect a usb storage device (whether it is a hard drive or flash storage) my desktop reverts to a weird background and icons show up that are not selectable.

Example:

My normal desktop: http://i.imgur.com/QUckCeN.png

What it changes to when I plug in a storage device: http://i.imgur.com/yqXEIRX.png

The icons on the left are not selectable either. Interesting though, I was playing with the theme settings and the icons will change with the theme change even though I cannot select them or highlight them.

Has anyone ran into this and maybe know a fix? Or is there somewhere I can grab a log on the system to see where there could be an error?

Thanks!

EDIT:

I am using Arch Linux

Kernel 4.5.3-1-ck (Haswell)

nVidia GTX 780 (using nvidia drivers) [This also happened when using my Intel integrated graphics]

EDIT2:

Just tried using the normal non-ck kernel, same thing.

EDIT3:

Tried using normal gnome3 (since it installs with) and it didn't happen on there.

EDIT4:

FIXED!

It appears that having caja installed (installs when I installed mate-disk-utility) makes this problem happen. After purging caja and it's config files it fixed the issue. Now anytime I connect a volume, it doesn't do this anymore. I don't even use caja as I use Nemo as the default file browser so not a lose for me.
