Hello community,
I just joined this subreddit and did a bit of research already, but need your advice. I am trying to set up a (relatively low-maintenance) fish tank with cichlids. I have 10 years of experience with south american freshwater fish and would like a change.
I have a 55 gallon cube-ish tank (27 x 22 x 25 in; 70 x 55 x 65 cm; Eheim Incipiria 200). My idea is to have just a Pseudotropheus saulosi colony and nothing else. Not sure how many. The goal would be to try to avoid issues with aggression. If you have other colorful suggestions, I'm happy to hear them! I do love the blue/yellow combo though - the idea is inspired by this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myAi6k4ScSU I know these dimensions are somewhat unusual and I also know that the length is typically considered to be the most important for fish. So I'd appreciate your advice here!
I am also planning to add as many "compatible" plants as possible (anubias, and plants shown in the video above).
I know that cichlids produce more waste, so for filtration, I have an Eheim Professionel 350 T (1050 Liter (270 gallons)/h) and would add an external filter (passive (Eheim classic 600?), just for more filter surface). I would probably also add an additional flow pump to get as much dirt filtered out as possible.
I am interested in your opinion! Is the aggression going to be mostly okay? How many fish would you think would be okay for this size fish tank? Or do you advise against Pseudotropheus saulosi?
Your advice is appreciated, thank you in advance!
