color ping pong request

how do i do a solid color with a wave moving back and forth? like i want to do a red base with a yellow line that starts at one side travels right to left across the keyboard then when it hits the end it comes back left to right then repeats over and over. each time it try to it up it wont let me have them going in the opposite direction unless its activated on a key press and if i try that i can get the timing right so it looks like the line that starts on the left is returning on the right.
