Syncing to Multiple Houses

Planning is already underway for next year, and we are going big in our neighborhood. I understand syncing lights to music fairly well. We want to sync 3 houses, 2 of which are on the same side of the street... does anyone have any ideas besides running a CAT5 cable across the road?
Seems like we need one controller for each house, all back to a central switch, then to one Raspberry Pi and one FM transmitter.
Appreciate any help!
