Skeptic Meanderings #2 - Christians are afraid of death. They use Christianity to make themselves feel better
Post Body

When I was an atheist as a young man, I was sold on this one. I believed the average Christian didn't believe in any of this Jesus mumbo-jumbo, they were only interested in eternal life. I'm unsure how or where I picked this belief up. I suppose it's just a common skeptic belief.

Honestly, today as a Christian, I'm not so sure my belief in this has changed. I've only met a few Christians that, through their behavior and life choices, I've been inspired. And I don't mean I've met a select few that have agreed with my Christian views.

I understand a blessed eternity is what I have been promised, but that doesn't change the fact that post-death reality is *rarely* on my mind. Maybe I'm more focused on the practical realities and help the Bible offers? Maybe that isn't good? After all, this is temporary.

Sheldon Vanauken and C.S Lewis had, what I think is, an interesting and important conversation on "wishful thinking" that Christianity is true or not. Sheldon strongly wanted it to be true, while C.S desperately wished it wasn't. Funny how they both ended up in the same place.

These are just meanderings, not meant to make any particular point. Comment or message if you'd like.
