It's just getting a bit tiring.
Honestly, in real life, I (Protestant) have always been good friends with Catholics, and have never got into an argument. There are theological things I've disagreed with, but I've had about as many issues with some of the more fundamentalist Protestant theologies, but I've always seen us as allies together. My home church would often do joint events with other local churches, and the local Catholic church was a welcome part of the group. I would even go and hang out at the Catholic chaplaincy on campus from time to time, and never had any fuss.
But yet here, it seems a day can't go by without one or more threads degenerating into "X isn't the true church!" on one side or the other. I find it very tiring, and frankly kind of unhelpful. We can have theological discussions, but it just seems like it gets stubborn and nasty really quickly. I've read through lots of the history, and I've put thought into the theological differences and their justifications, but there are things to talk about, but it just doesn't feel like this is a nice environment to do that in. Maybe it's just because it's Reddit and there are too many know-it-all guys in their young 20s, I dunno. But it's just making this place less pleasant than it should be.
Does anyone else feel this way?
