Flair Update is Live
Post Body

Hey, everyone!

For those kept waiting: Let me begin by apologizing for the delay. Some of you know that I was in the hospital, and after I got out, I had a couple close family members end up in there—we were expecting to lose someone. Thank God, all is well. Now I' back home and I've had some time off work, so I can finally get this done.

Why isn't every request accepted? In order to keep the flair selection dialog from becoming impractically huge and to keep the task of updating and maintaining flair manageable, there are a set of criteria for evaluating potential flair. Many flair requests get filtered out and tabled or redirected. In applying those same standards to the existing flair, I found that some changes were in order. I've solicited and considered the desires and arguments offered by the community in deciding how to handle this. Though the pruning may hurt a bit, I believe these changes will yield an overall positive result.

Why does user X still have flair Y? If you continue to see some of the old flair around, don't be surprised. I don't fully understand how Reddit applies the changes made in the update. It may be the case that some changes don't take effect until you manually reset your flair, or they may take place immediately. They may be applied to past comments, or only to future posts. I guess we'll have to wait and see. Hopefully it wont lead to too much confusion.

Anyways, thank you for all your input. I hope you are pleased with the result.

Comments/Questions:

  • Agnostic Atheist: It's my understanding that nearly all those who identify as atheist are in the agnostic camp—meaning that the agnosticism can be safely assumed. I think it makes more sense to leave this as is and (if necessary) add a flair for Gnostic Atheism/Antitheism.

  • Saint Thomas Christians: After looking into it more, it seems that most of these denominations are covered by Oriental Orthodox or Eastern Catholic. If I'm mistaken, please let me know.

  • There were a few requests for some sort of non-Trinitarian Christian flair. It's my understanding that outside of Unitarian Universalism nearly all unitarian groups are Oneness Pentecostals. Is this correct?
