Can someone help me understand?

I’ve seen a whole lot of posts on here claiming that God tests our faith by doing such-and-such before granting us something we want, or that God allows us to be tempted to sin to test our faith and loyalty to him. I haven’t seen anything in scripture that leads me to believe this is how God operates. I’d really like to understand where people are coming from on this.
I’m not looking to start debates or arguments. I just want to understand.
