I’ve been going through the Old Testament stories of murder and mayhem (that’s what the course is called) and the amount of God-ordained violence (including sexual abuse and the murder of children) just does not align with God incarnate, Jesus Christ. I can’t do these mental gymnastics anymore that justify so much suffering.

Too many biblical authors got away with what many of us do today: write our own conceptions of God that are highly contingent upon our current cultural moment, which often leads to the suffering of marginalized groups (dehumanizing non-white people, the role of women for most of human civilization, etc).

I’m not really seeking advice tbh. Just getting it off my chest.
