Recently i have found myself interested in the movement of transhumanism. For those who are not aware of this movement(and to avoid confusion with transgender people) wikipedia describes it as follows:
"Transhumanism is a philosophical and intellectual movement which advocates the enhancement of the human condition by developing and making widely available sophisticated technologies that can greatly enhance longevity and cognition."
And philosophy tube made a great video on it https://youtu.be/DqPd6MShV1o?si=k877fkm0jHxauF17
Now my question is how christianity and christians would view this way of thinking.
On the one hand we are made in the image of god and our body is temple, which could be taken as a sign that we shouldn't temper too much with it. Which then begs the question how much tempering is too much.
On the other hand christians often see the "made in gods image" thing as something to do with our soul rather than our physical body.
And our bodies are heavily degraded from their ideal state by the fall. So using technology to improve our bodies could be seen as a way to get rid of the imperfections caused by the fall and get closer to the way god intended our bodies to be. But then again this could also be seen as sacriligious.
So what are your opinions on this from a christian point of view. Or relating to christianity.
