Question about churches

I saw this post here that said "my church raised money for medical debt" I think it was 500,000, but why saying "My church" is someone's church not someone else's church? are churches not all the same? can a christian go inside any church, or what's going on? I've seen in movies sometimes when someone enters a church people look at him funny as if he's not a part of it from some of the scenes I've seen, is every church it's own group? Can someone from church A go to church B and vice versa?
