If someone spreads malicious lies about you or a friend steals from you, is it in any way wrong to turn them in? I've struggled with this quite a bit, myself, more often than not choosing to turn the other cheek and no longer associate with that person. Particularly because in my area of the United States the punishment simply wouldn't fit the crime in my opinion. I've had thousands stolen from me over the years and I've had vicious slurs hurled my way originating from rumors started by people I once called friend. If I wanted to, I could have them spend time in jail, I could easily win a lawsuit against them, or even have them branded as a felon. The evidence in my possession is damning.
But I'm between a rock and a hard place acknowledging that not standing up for myself will only result in more people seeing me as weak while standing up for myself means dooming them to an uncomfortable existence I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy.
