So - if you were to Google Search "Sex as an Act of Worship" you would find a number of quotes and portions of scripture, and opinions on this. If you look at some of these you will find them to be a bit self-serving when it comes to the male equation as the clear undertones of most doctrines focuses on the wife "giving it up". By the way, I don't have a problem with that conceptually and it would be impossible for me to count how many times I have "gave it up". There are times when my husband's horny-o-meter is pegged at 99 and I am exhausted from a difficult day. BUT - I never say no, I just point out that he is getting on top and not me.

It's easier for me as when I come home super horny and he isn't. I change into something hot because he is very visual, add his favorite sent and go down on him, and of course, my turn to be on top.

It's actually rare that we are both worked up and horny at the same time. Things just don't work out that way. It's why one of the things I enjoy about the lifestyle parties is that we both get pretty worked up, pretty predictably. And then...

Sex is powerful, purposeful, and is immersive in mind and body. It should never be self-serving (though it happens more often than most of us would feel comfortable admitting), and it can involve acts of generosity and vulnerability.

Now then, sex as an act of worship? Not buying it.

Has sex been used in the past as a part of worship, yes, by many religions including Christianity. Can the result of having sex, a pregnancy be a form of worship, yes, as one of the many purposes of sex is procreation and God wants us to procreate; to be fruitful and multiply. But is it worshiping? Or is it a reason to worship?

The verb to worship is what we do to show our great respect, our love, our devotion to God, and when we worship (the noun) we honor the God who made us, created our lives, and has prepared an earthly script and a heavenly script for our past, present and future.

I was once asked, should I thank God for sex when I pray? The answer is yes. Just as we thank God for the good food that we eat when we say our blessings, sex also nourishes our lives, our bodies, and makes life that much more pleasant.

I understand that some scripture bombs may come my way by saying the sex is NOT worshiping our God, but it is something to thank God for during those times when we worship Him. We pay homage to God by being Christians, following Christ's Great Commandment, the Great Commission, in remembrance of Him when we celebrate communion - so I would expect that God might appreciate it if you thank him for that amazing orgasm you had last night.
