Dealing with “Holier Than Thou” people who look down on the lifestyle.
Post Body

This has been a post I have been needing to make for a while. There have been plenty of debates on this sub going back and forth on the issue. And with many new people interested in the lifestyle, I wanted to raise attention to the issue.

James 2:10-11 NIV 10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. 11 For he who said, “You shall not commit adultery,” also said, “You shall not murder.” If you do not commit adultery but do commit murder, you have become a lawbreaker.

James 2:10-11 NKJV 10 For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. 11 For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” Now if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.

With the reference to adultery it is even more fitting. Now whether or not you believe swinging constitutes adultery, (Due to it being fully consented by both parties) is not the point of this.

BUT for the sake of this post we will assume swinging is a sin.

What is important is what makes someone a lawbreaker or sinner. James tells us that breaking any one of the commandments makes you fully guilty of breaking the law, In turn making you a lawbreaker. Everyone reading this is a lawbreaker. None of us can claim that we have upheld the entirety of the commandments. For instance I broke the law this morning when replied saying “I’m doing great” to the standard “how are you” from my coworkers. This lie makes me a lawbreaker, a sinner.

Romans 6:23 23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Because of that little lie I am categorized as a sinner. I deserve judgement but by grace I am spared. All this together paints a picture that none is less of a sinner than another. Biblically all sin is sin and there is no greater or less severe sin. You are either perfect or a sinner.

There have been comments from individuals who try to paint swingers as terrible sinners, who will all rot in hell. Now as moderator I do my best to keep tabs on these conversations, but I do not believe in censoring people who are critical of the LS as long as it is civil and follows the rules. HOWEVER My message to them and to anyone who believes that they are more “holy” than others.

“Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone” John 8:7

And we all know what happened next…

TLDR: Breaking one commandment makes you fully guilty no matter which one you broke. No one is blameless, and no one other than God should be making judgements about peoples salvation.

Comments

First off, I support you as the leader and the moderator of this Sub-Reddit. It is an extremely complex issue for some.

For me, it's pretty simple. God gave us an amazing gift and I celebrate it every chance I get. I believe in Christ, I believe in his teachings. I am deeply perplexed by Paul and my studies have taken me back into the origins of our Bible and New Testament. Can an effort by man, who is sinful by nature to create a book 300 years after Christ ascended into heaven be trusted? I trust in the Gospels, I trust in Christ's Words. Beliefs. Teachings. I do not trust that man has not had arterial motives in the translation, composition, and selection of Biblical writings. I do not trust all of the translations. I do not trust the doctrine concerning Paul's writings when it is not clear that he actually wrote them. There is clear evidence that he likely wrote the letters to Corinth, but that others were not his writings.

To add to the post, there is another great translation, from the Contemporary English Version of James 2:10-11

The same God who told us to be faithful in marriage also told us not to murder. So even if you are faithful in marriage, but murder someone, you still have broken God's Law.

I am a swinger though I prefer to say that I participate in the sharing of recreational sex with my husband and others.

One thing that I take to heart is that we are all sinners. Sometimes without even meaning to be so. I believe we are by nature, sinful beings. BUT, though Christ we are all saved and our sins are forgiven. He paid for our sins. It is not my place to judge anyone or anything. Only God has that authority and if I am wrong, I am confident that Christ will defend me at my judgement.

Thank you for moderating this.
