Hooking up with friends. Bad idea?

My wife and I are working out some of the details for our first steps into an orally non-monogamous (stag/vixen) relationship. Right now, we're trying to figure out if friends should be off-limits. She'd like to carefully pursue some friends and guys we know. I think it's hot, but too risky. We are both somewhat high profile and she works full time for our church (and our church leans conservative). I'd like to know what the CNM/ENM community on reddit thinks. Thanks.
