Hi all, I am looking for recommendations for books about intimacy with my wife that are not super legalistic? I am reading Divine Sex right now but looking for other suggestions.

The freedom of Sexual Love

This is a good book... but not great. Let me explain. The authors are experienced relationship counselors and devote Catholics. There is NOTHING wrong with this. It provides a healthy perspective on relationships and sex within the Catholic doctrine. For those just starting out in life and need to learn what marriage, love, and sex are all about - its a great book. But when you have been married for a year or more, you need the next volume of the story.

By the way, the sequel - Marriage Is for Grownups is a better read and I believe it to be more relevant.

BUT - in either case, sex is still characterized within the Catholic Doctrine, so for many non-Catholic Christians, it will feel unfamiliar. For Christians struggling with sexual issues, the benefits from these books would be minimal. As something to give to your kids when they start to get serious with another, it is a thoughtful gift and you will need to encourage them to read. Then offer the follow on book as a wedding gift.

For good books for Christians, I don't think there is one that I really like. There tends to be two themes amongst Christians dealing with sexual topics. The How to Manual and the frank discussions about Recreational Sex and Shared Recreational Sex. If you want to learn about sex, I recommend the good old often revised, Joy of Sex and the Joy of Intimacy. In terms of Share Recreational Sex, there are subreddits like this one which is devoted to the topic.
