Although the CWCki says that Chris most likely doesn't have schizophrenia, I strongly doubt this. It is possible that Chris does not have schizophrenia, but it is more likely than not that he does.
Firstly, risk factors:
Chris has a variety of risk factors for schizophrenia.
He was born in late winter.
Barb likely drank while she was pregnant.
Childhood adversity, in the case of roach.
Isolation as a child, and lack of connection with parents.
Chris has a low IQ.
Chris also experienced some things that could be considered prodromal symptoms, long before the classic era:
Chris took Paxil, meaning he likely had depression at some point.
The first signs of positive symptoms began to arise when he was in college. He believed the state of Virginia was in a conspiracy to keep him a virgin, a persecutory delusion in line with schizophrenia. He also displayed magical thinking with his curse-ye-ha-me-ha, although I would not say this was psychosis yet. Chris's speech also became more disordered around this time. However, many people in the prodromal phase will not have schizophrenia.
The first signs of Chris having hallucinations (to my knowledge) are in the third BlueSpike PSN Chat, when Chris said he hears voices calling him gay. This is very telling of schizophrenia.
Negative symptoms:
Telling negative symptoms of schizophrenia were present as far back as the classic era.
Anhedonia:
Whether Chris has anhedonia is questionable, but he has recently stopped playing on his consoles.
Blunted affect:
Present in Chris, but more likely a result of his autism.
Asociality:
Very clearly present as far back as the classic era. Chris has no desire for social interaction other than to find a boyfriend-free girl.
Avolition:
Much like anhedonia, it is questionable whether Chris has avolition. However, Chris giving up his love quest and Sonichu comics after the classic era was over is very telling of avolition, as well as his inability to hold a job.
Positive symptoms:
Positive symptoms of schizophrenia were present as far back as the classic era.
Thought disorder:
Chris very clearly shows many symptoms of a thought disorder.
Alogia: Chris often gives one word answers. In Mailbag 2, when someone asks Chris if he listens to music while he works, his answer is just âyesâ. While this is common in schizophrenia, it is more likely a symptom of Chris's autism.
Thought blocking: Chris's speech is slow, and he frequently stops in the middle of sentences to recollect his thoughts. In a video from December 2009 where he fails to rap, he literally says âmomentary pause to recollectâ and then transitions to a completely different topic.
Circumstantial speech: Another symptom that is more likely to be a result of his autism, Chris frequently goes into unneeded detail when he doesn't need to. This is seen in Sonichu 0, when Chris says â5 miles from the city of station squareâ instead of just âoutside station squareâ.
Clanging: Chris's random-access humor is very clearly clanging, as well as phrases such as âsweetheart from the ground-upâ. Chris most likely thinks that phrase rhymes, even when it clearly doesn't.
Derailment: Goes with thought blocking.
Distractable speech: Doesn't seem to be present in Chris, but please tell me if I am wrong.
Echolalia: Chris often repeats phrases he heard before verbatim, although this is more likely a result of his autism.
Evasion: This can be seen in his video âDo Not Dis C Villeâ, where he claims that dissing Sonichu is dissing CWCVille, which is therefore disrespecting every single city that starts with C, including Charlottesville. Nonsensical logic like this is very telling of schizophrenia.
Flight of ideas: Chris says he has ârandom-access memoryâ, meaning he can't stay on one topic for too long.
Illogicality: Couldn't think of any examples of this off the top of my head, although Chris most likely has it. Possibly an extension of evasion.
Word salad: Chris's random-access humor can be categorized as word salad, and his responses to questions are frequently just random strings of nonsensical words.
Neologism: CWC-isms. Chris makes up names for things he doesn't know the name of (such as âinstinctionsâ instead of âinstancesâ), which is telling of schizophrenia.
Overinclusion: Chris thinks headaches and dreams mean he is connecting with God.
Perseveration: Although commonly seen in autism, I would blame Chris's perseveration on schizophrenia. Chris frequently repeats words.
Phonemic paraphasia: Chris's speech consists of many spoonerisms.
Pressured speech: Not clear enough to see, but in NO D*** WAY, IMPOSTOR!!!, Solid rattles off his personal information very quickly.
Referential thinking: Chris sees dreams as a connection with God.
Stilted speech: Chris's speech is overly formal, although this is most likely the result of his autism.
Tangential speech: This can be seen frequently in the mailbags, where Chris wanders off to a different topic and never answers the question asked.
Verbigeration: Unclear. Chris's repetition of words in random-access humor may qualify.
Hallucinations:
Being one of the most common symptoms of schizophrenia, Chris suffers from many hallucinations. As early as February 2009, Chris complained about hearing voices calling him gay. Later on, at BronyCon 2017, he is dancing with whom he believes to be Magi-Chan, meaning these hallucinations were no longer only auditory. The CWCki says that Chris is able to distinguish reality from fantasy by saying that they live in different dimensions. However, it is far more likely that Chris sees them in reality and only says they live in different dimensions to explain why nobody else can see them. The CWCki also says that Chris's hallucinations are self-serving, when they are clearly not.
Delusions:
Chris has experienced many delusions over his life, which have been enabled by his parents. It is also possible that Bob has schizophrenia due to his delusions. If Bob did indeed have schizophrenia, Chris's chances of developing the disorder are over 30%, assuming his IQ is in the 70-80 range. Chris believes that the state of Virginia is trying to keep him a virgin, that there are trolls led by Megan/Michael Snyder/Clyde Cash/Jason Kendrick Howell/Whoever that are trying to torture him and keep him a virgin. These are all clearly persecutory delusions. Whether Chris suffers from bizarre delusions is less clear, although his belief that seeing topless men will turn him gay most likely qualifies. Thought broadcasting may be present in Chris. The reason Chris constantly denied he was gay may have been he was gay, and he thought trolls were hearing his thoughts. Thought insertion can also be seen, where he thinks topless men are trying to turn him gay.
Cognitive symptoms:
Schizophrenia is often associated with a loss in IQ. If the autism papers were correct, we can assume that Chris's IQ is in the range of 85-115. This may be a result of the psychologist being incompetent, but the IQ of modern Chris is clearly much lower. People with schizophrenia typically lose the ability to distinguish facial features and have trouble socializing long before disease onset, which can both be seen in Chris (his trouble socializing is more likely a result of his autism, however). While Chris's speech in his videos from mid-2008 is largely normal, by the end of 2009, it is far slower. Chris's neurocognition is also clearly hindered.
In conclusion, it is impossible to tell whether Chris has schizophrenia, although it is likely that he has it. I have no training with this, however, so don't take my words seriously.
