My 4 yr old daughter got labs done today. We were thrilled with the drop even though she's still way too high! She inherited FH from my husband; the variant in his family is aggressive! My husband also has elevated LP(a) which fortunately she did not inherit.
The drop in cholesterol levels was that she was breastfed till 3.5. I read a study based in the UK that breastfeeding a child with FH was best for long term cholesterol results especially as an adult. I tried to put in the most effort possible to give her the best outcome.
I know some of you get nervous about your numbers. If you have FH they've been high since you were young.
We have a pediatric cardiologist and nutritionist and plan to put her on statins at age 8.
That's interesting about the breastfeeding helping with cholesterol. Do you know the mechanism?
