EDIT: realise title is probably misleading as I eat loads of fat sources e.g. nuts (probs even too many tbh, I suffer from bingeing episodes particularly w nuts) avocado, extra virgin olive oil and oily fish twice a week
Hi all,
27F here, feeling really deflated. I lost my period years ago when I suddenly lost a lot of weight, so I put on loads of weight to put it back on. It's been pretty regular since at my maintenance weight (always approx around 7 stone / 5 ft tall / BMI 19.2 ish) but now since changing my diet for cholesterol it's completely gone again.
The most drastic change I made since finding out my cholesterol levels has been dropping 90% of dairy from my diet (apart from maybe a couple times a month 0% greek yog or 0% cottage cheese, and I also sometimes have skimmed milk with instant coffee or tea a few times a week). I used to eat about 7 eggs a week and now I don't eat any. I'd also have 80% dark chocolate weekly. I believe I had a good diet overall (no refined sugars, no seed oils, no simple carbs) but obviously have changed this since finding out my cholesterol levels (LDL 192... awaiting tests to declare if it's FH as obviously that's insanely high)
For the past 2 months, an example of an avg daily intake would be:
- Breakfast: porridge made w water, containing chia & flax seeds, cinnamon, banana, some raisins or dates, cacao powder, spirulina powder
- Lunch: avocado, quinoa, veg e.g. carrots, broccoli, kale, spinach
- Snacks: peanut butter on rye bread, or a few handfuls of nuts
- Dinner: butter beans, leek, miso paste, nutritional yeast, brussell sprouts, garlic etc
- Dessert: apple w peanut or almond butter, oat and banana 'cookie'
Might also be worth noting that I do suffer with binge eating, and having all these food restrictions has been really tough, and some days I do binge on entire bags of unroasted cashews / pistachios / rye bread w jam or peanut butter.
I need to regain my menstrual cycle for my health but also need to lower my LDL, so feel pretty stuck. Dr hasn't offered statins and I'm personally not keen on the idea at starting them so young.
Did you also lose weight with the diet changes? That's what could trigger the period loss. Or possibly the diet change along with extra stress. 19 BMI is on the low end with little wiggle room to lose any weight. Maybe your doctor can refer you to meet with a dietician?
