is it possible to further decrease the graphics than what possible ingame?

I'm thinking about how on Skyrim you can edit a text file and make it look really plain.
I run red orchestra fine, and I just wish it was possible to reduce graphics to that level on chivalry. My laptop easily overheats which can be a bit troubling for me. And I really don't care much about graphics, I'm just very sensitive when it comes to FPS.
