予少壮时喜为讽刺漫画，写目睹之现状，揭人间之丑相。然亦作古诗新画，以今日之形相，写古诗之情景。今老矣，回思少作，深悔讽刺之徒增口业，而窃喜古诗之美妙天真，可以陶情适性，排遣世虑也。然旧作都已散失。因追忆画题，从新绘制，得七十余帧。虽甚草率，而笔力反胜于昔。因名之曰敝帚自珍，交爱我者藏之。今生画缘尽于此矣！

When I was young, my interest was in creating satirical cartoons, in which I draw what I saw, and reveal what was ugly in human society. I have also drawn paintings with classical poetic themes, in which I translate the classical poetic impressions into scenes of the world we now live in. Now, thinking back on my earlier works as I have grown old by age, I regret deeply that my satires may have vainly invited negative karma, and delight at the beautiful and simplcit nature of classical poetry, which refines the mind and diverts it from the concerns of the earthly world. However, my works in both categories were lost. In memory of the previous painting themes, I recreated 70 pieces of paintings. They were done quite hastily, but it appears that my skills were better than before. I name the set 'My Modest Collection of Treasure' and give it to those who appreciate me so that they can have it. This is the end of my fate with art.
