Do you have any spoken Chinese words that you and your family use but you can't find the written character for or you just think that it's only part of spoken language (never written down)?

Post Body

I think I just found the appropriate character to the actual word we say at home.

Too often I see θ’Έι·„θ›‹ and θ›‹ηΎΉ in writing, referring to the specific food, and for the longest time, I actually write like that even though none of them is what my family actually uses.

η‚–ιΈ‘θ›‹ is much closer to what my family actually uses.

In Wuhan Putonghua, my parents often say den4, and for the longest time ever, I just thought it was only a spoken word. No longer. I finally found the lost character. It's η‚–.

Also, in standard Putonghua, 存款 is cun kuan. In Wuhan Putonghua (not Wuhanhua or Putonghua, but how Wuhan locals pronounce Putonghua), the pronunciation is more like cen kuan.

That's when I figured:

  • dun > den
  • cun > cen
  • duan > dan
