Beginner Mandarin immersion material?

I want to start immersing but I'm having difficulty finding something I can actually engage with. I'd have liked to start with Manhua but I can't read any of the characters. I have the Zhongwen pop up dictionary but it doesn't work with pictures, and I don't think OCR is good for handwriting.
Does anyone have any recommendations?
