Story time, grab your popcorn.
So I stopped to have lunch around noon while returning from chapora fort as I am currently for a vacation in goa, the restaurant was empty ,Italian themed, I ordered a pizza and coffee and lightly me and the waiter started conversing. So then he asked he wanted to ask something if he has my permission, so I said go ahead.
Then he said he has a brother who has completed MBA and looking for jobs, this he asked after probably getting to know I’m from Bangalore. He asked if I could help, I took his number and said I’ll see what I can do. I did explain him how it’s hard to land a job without experience and the whole egg or chicken first thing with regards to job and experience 😁.
So he said it would be of massive help if I could help his brother land a job, then further said that his family has financial difficulties and this would help a lot. I asked how many people are their in the family , he said they are 6 siblings to their parents and he is the eldest ( we had a bit of eldest kid bro hug through eyes lol)
Then I asked if the was married he said yes and 2 kids. Imagine the number of dependents on him. Good lord. Felt for him. But yeah idk with more acceptance of being childfree in the country probably he could avoided the kids?
The crazy thing nobody even thinks this is a choice, it’s like they have to! That’s the next step you know, when you grow up. Get married and have kids. Our urbane population might understand that it’s a choice but for the overwhelming majority of India, it’s a default. I really hope some good mass masala movies normalises this stance or something. That’s the only way I see this happening quickly otherwise it’s gonna take a century.
I know with india not having proper elder care it’s tough for lower and mid classes to not think like that (but it’s not a reason you bring kids to the world🫤)
Idk I asked how does he feel about so many dependents on him. He said he’s managing somehow. I did advise him at the end to keep finances in the clear among the family. All the siblings should know how much many comes in , goes out and is owed. He seemed to nod along.
God! I am pretty sure his kids too will have a not so great time being raised up in such financially dysfunctional family. And they have kids and the cycle continues. 😞
