A few years ago I did some jail time for arrears I accumulated because I was out of work for a year with a broken back. Long messed up story.
This was my first scrape with the law since I got a speeding ticket when I was 16.
I was in a "pod" that was locked down 23 hours a day because we were all pre-trial and they put everyone together (murderers, pedos, etc.).
While I was locked up I constantly thought to myself that I'm in this situation because I had kids. I was tormented in that cell with thoughts of hating my children.
The uncomfortable part is that I still think that way. I love my kids but there is this underlying resentment that I have towards them. After that experience I started seeing them less and less. I couldn't stand to be around them or see their mother.
After 8 weeks I was able to borrow enough money to pay my purge and be free again.
That jail cell really fucked me up.
Anyone else have these kinds of feelings?
Man, to be honest with you, I'm now a prisoner of my country because of this system of coercion. They've ruined my credit so now I can't pass a background check for high security clearance, which affects my income. They've put me in jail. They put a lein on my bank account and intercepted my entire paycheck. How the FUCK do I pay rent? But I'm preaching to the choir. My apologies for the rant.
Telling me I'm a felon is just a name. More jail time? Not unless they build more jails. 90 days is max in connecticut. In my experience as long as you stay under that arrears threshold you're good to go.
Yes thats correct. In my state they call it a "purge" amount and that goes to the custodial parent. I borrowed money from friends but had to wait for some of them to get paid before they could loan me the funds.
I dont think they can call it bail because you haven't committed a crime. When you get locked up for arrears you are considered a "civil admit". Technically as a civil admit you are legally supposed to be segregated from the general population because it is a civil matter not criminal.
Sorry that was a lot of info.
I'm in connecticut. I made a motion to modify and they took 100 dollars off of the 800 per month I owed. They said I still had the ability to work a desk job so they wouldn't lower it any further..
In my state they come after you once you hit $1500 in arrears. Your first court date is usually light coercion in the form of paying a certain amount by a certain date. The second court date is jail. Or so I've learned.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful response.
I'm very happy that you are finally out of the system. Congrats! I bet it feels good.
