One black character on the unit and no storylines?

I'm on season 4 episode 19 and I can't help but notice that not only is there only one person on the intelligence unit who isn't white, but the one black member is really just a token black guy. He's around to question black suspects or to play the bouncer when they go undercover at the club but we haven't met any of his family, he's never had a love interest, and they never work cases because of his connection. It's just gotten to the point where I can't ignore it anymore.
