Buying a motorcycle in Chicagoland

Hey folks I'm hopping to get into riding this year or maybe next year worst case. I'm wondering if you have any suggestions to for affordable dealers or groups to buy used from?

Looking in staying around 6K total for bike and gear. I've had my eye on either Honda Rebel 500 or Kawiska Ninja 400/500 I could get both for 6K brand new from a dealer but Id rather not blow 99% of my budget on bike right away.

Also opinion on taking riding course like Ride Chicago should I take that before I purchase my own bike or after? I know they provide bikes
