99 GMC Sierra (Classic) Steering Upgrade Help!!

So I have a 99 GMC Sierra classic and of course the steering is trash as usual. My rag joint is toasted and instead of going back with that setup I would like to go with a u joint set up. I know that 88-94 they are using the Jeep XJ shaft to upgrade their setup. I also know that won’t work on 95-2000 due to the newer steering column with the joint at the base of it. I have found the Borgeson shafts but I’m sure someone with a little “red neck ingenuity” has mastered this issue on these (95-2000) models without having to pay $200.
Anyone done this upgrade without spending so much. Possibly using a lower splined coupler and the original mid telescopic shaft?? Any input and or info would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks guys
