I have 2017 Sonic rs hatchback with 58,xxx miles on it. I am not a knowledgable car guy but willing to learn. I am a welder/fabricator. I have fab/welded my aluminum cold air intake. 2.75β ID to a 3β ID and making a custom aluminum box cover. I notice a little difference, more in sound than anything. So next i want to do is take the current stock exhaust piping system and cut/fab/weld a total replacement but with 3β pipe. I want this to be like a βtest runβ before i go full stainless and commit to the investment. My questions is, is it a bad idea to do so? Will it throw engine codes? Will i reduce or gain power? Should i remove any of the stock OEM exhaust parts? Will it sound bad? Im not worried about it being louder, i want it to sound good and not obnoxious like most of the kids around my town with their loud ricey cars. Im 32, I custom fab/weld classic and modern cars for a living and have been in around the metal trade basically my whole life thanks to my father. But with that being said im a metal guy, not a motor guy. Any good advice is great advice. Thanks in advanced.
