Post Body

I nought a used 2013 Chevy Captiva about 6 months ago at 130,000 miles. I knew there would be problems, but I saw it as a learning opportunity because I think its necessary to know how to do basic mechanics.

Anyways, vehicle starts losing battery power over a matter of days on a 1 month old battery. Took the battery back to Autozone, they recommend bringing it in to test alternator. I install new battery, head there, they tell me the alternator is bad. I make it back home, have the car tested 2 more times at different places and get told same thing.

I went ahead and bought a remanufactured alternator from Advanced Auto Parts and I installed the new alternator with the help of a mechanic friend. We did everything right in terms of installation. Everything is tightened and connected properly. Yet, the power drain seems worse. The cables seem fine, no corrosion on terminals. Nothing extra is on either like cabin lights or something silly like that.

At this point I don't know where to turn in fixing it myself. I would really like to avoid the shop so if anyone can help out with some advice I'd appreciate it a lot. Thank you guys in advance!
