That sucks. I just don’t understand how these would work with any vehicle. I couldn’t figure out a way to pry the metal back to slip it over the stud on the hatch or the jeeps body.
I had hoped it was just a universal type thing and I could just snap these on and be done with it
That’s handy thing to try but I don’t know it would have helped me with the way these struts were made. I ended up bending, and then breaking, one is the flat metal pieces you can see on the inside there
I didn’t have the ones I bought handy to get a picture. I just found this picture online. This particular one I posted was being advertised as a part for a grand Cherokee, but the design is similar to the ones I bought for my xj

I don’t think so. Mine is basically set up with a metal stud (with a star or hex pattern on it, if you wanted to unscrew it I guess) on the hatch and the body that the struts attach to.
I only unhooked the right side. After I broke the one piece on the new strut, I gave up and wanted to do more research on it before trying it again. Neither of the studs looked bent or warped necessarily though.
As a side note: I broke and lost the circular pins to the old strut, so I’m hoping i didn’t need those
