recently, my XJ has been having trouble starting. the engine will turn, but not start. it used to happen pretty infrequently, but now happens almost every time. when it does start, it'll often cough then die within ten seconds. using starter fluid has varying degrees of success. sometimes it gets it going, but more often than not it does little to help.

i also get abysmal mileage, have trouble accelerating, and a rough idle. stalled out at a few red lights.

running a diagnostic gives back a 55, or no code. i was thinking it might be the CPS sensor, but isn't that supposed to throw a code?

it's also for sure not the spark plugs, plug wires, alternator, battery, or fuel filter. all have been recently changed.

i'm thinking it's either the distributor, which is unlikely since it looked fine when i replaced the plugs and wires, or the fuel pump. is there anything else that may cause these symptoms? thanks
