EDIT: not actually trans continental, trans... national? sorry if you clicked this thread thinking it'd be awesomer than it actually is
Anyone have experience road trippin' and living out of a Cherokee? Two of my friends and I are taking mine from Northern Virginia to Philmont, New Mexico this spring, which is a hell of a ways for a Jeep with almost 200,000 miles on it.
We've all got very little money, but I'm doing whatever I can to make sure it'll make it. The check engine light hasn't been on since I replaced the alternator, and once I replace the PS pump there won't be any fluid leaks, either. I've got a spare tire and battery, and I'll make sure to top off everything, change the oil, and check the sparks before we leave. If I'm missing anything crucial, do tell.
I'm a little concerned about the high speeds, my Jeep gets a little sketchy when I go over 70. I'm on a 3 inch lift with 31s that are in pretty good shape, but I know I'd roll and tumble if one of them blew out. Fuck it dog, life's a risk.
As for sleeping and living, I'm thinking of getting a roof rack to tie down all our shit. I've actually slept in the back with the seats down with two other friends before, but it was cold and we were too wasted to pitch the tent. Never would have agreed to it sober, it was ass to ass. What's probably gonna end up happening is one guy sleeping in the back and the other two in a tent nearby. I figure we'll just drive off the highway a ways or something.
Anyone have experience with this sorta thing and wanna throw me some pointers? Any tips or funny stories would be appreciated.
