Need help badly - xj restoration
Post Body

About the xj :

Im located in a caribbean country , the vehicle is a 1996 right hand drive , came with a 4.0 engine .

Basically there are only a few on the island as the market is saturated with jdm cars basically . Not much parts are available .

The reason for the issue :

Vehicle was treated badly , body is solid but needs some work

The engine apparently got damaged and was swapped with another 4.0

It seems they made a mess out of the electrical

The issue

1 The jeep gives hell to start when its cold

2 i can hear it miss firing a lot when the vehicle is colder. You hear the pops in the intake and the exhaust when you slowly accelerate.

3 the vehicle revs great at higher rpm and higher speeds . Drive to slow it backfires and misses , drive to fast it starts stuttering like its not geting fuel. There is this sweet spot between 40-90kmh where its runs just perfect

4 previous owners seemed to have removed the idle air contol from the throttle body . Just capped it off .

I have a mind to junk the engine and tranny and go ls

Or if this is a simple fix i wont mind .

Parts are limited so not sure if its worth buying g the parts from usa and fixing if i can find the problem or just throwing in a ls or 2jz engine .

UPDATE

I got a new iac installed , Vehicle idles a lot better and has improved

Im still having a lot of misfires , once i accelerate i can hear the backfires coming out of the intake . The vehicle bucks and misfires till it reaches a higher speed .
