I am very passionate about chemical engineering and have a background surrounding it, but in my area chemical engineers make far less money (roughly 69000$) compared to other engineering around my area (roughly 85000$ - 105000$) I am very passionate about chemical engineering, but the salary is making me want to do a different type of engineering, should I go with chemical?
I graduated with a chemical engineering degree and ended up as an automation engineer which has nothing to do with ChEE really lol. From what I’ve seen ChEE grads usually get paid a bit higher in my area. My work philosophy is you won’t be happy making less money even if it’s something you’re really passionate about. I accepted the automation engineer offer because it paid way more than other traditional process engineer positions I’ve applied to. Is this your first job out of college? If so then your first job it’s important to negotiate salary for other jobs later. Hope that helps :)
