Hello everyone, this is my first Reddit post so hopefully the formatting is correct. I will be a soon-to-be chemistry undergraduate from university. I've had plenty of work and internship experience in analytical chemistry (mostly in the lab). I'm looking to go straight into industry.
I received an offer from a company in the automotive industry for a chemical engineering position. They're aware that I've spent most of my time in the lab, but they were impressed regardless. The salary and location are perfect for me. I am also interested in the work they do and my potential role within the process.
However, I am afraid that if I took the position I would be screwing myself over. If I were to move on from this company I am afraid that no one would hire a chemist for an chem engineering position even with experience. On the flip side, spending this time would be time away from a job that gives me lab/analytical experience.
What do you people think? Is this true? Any advice or help would be highly appreciated. Thank you!
I’m an automation engineer at an O&G company and I know someone in the team who has a degree in chemistry. he’s an engineer now with over 20 years of experience! So I’m 99% sure that you’ll be fine! After your first job no one is gonna look at your school degree or your GPA. All they care about is your industry experience!
