Was watching a recent video about A.I.‘s problem with accuracy/fact-checking done by the YouTuber Marques Brownlee.

A point he makes is “fundamentally, the AI doesn’t know if it’s telling the truth or not, it does not understand that, it’s not part of the model. What we’re seeing is it taking our inputs, and creating outputs based on related words that our most likely to go together. It’s not forming a sentence like humans do, it’s generating a new sentence…. It’s not sentient, it doesn’t understand what it’s saying, and so it’s definitely not fact-checking itself”.

To those of you who believe in AI’s present sentience, what bearing do you think this observation has on your belief? To those of you who don’t believe in AI’s present sentience, do you agree with this statement?
