I hate to sound like an edgy asshole, but I have to say the recent Robin discourse is more annoying than anything. I absolutely loved the film and I loved the world that the film established. But that being said, using a conventional Robin or Batfamily for that matter, at least something like the comics, is unrealistic and frankly unnecessary. The half-faced Joker(?) thug in the beginning of the film who tried to stop Batman from getting shot would be the best candidate to fill a potential Robin role, but that isn't what people are talking about.
We are one movie into this franchise and people are already pushing for Nightwing, Batgirl, and Robin to be in the next film. I recognize that is not the majority but I feel some fans need to relax for a hot sec. I want a good Robin portrayal as much as the next guy but please have patience. And why does it have to be Dick Grayson and a while film about The Flying Graysons? I honestly feel Jason Todd fits a bit better for this universe anyway (and without the need for Red Hood). If they introduce Barbara Gordon why does she have to be Batgirl? Why not have her be born handicapped and just go straight to Oracle, have her work closely with Batman and her father from somewhere safe, leading to an intense moment where villains find her and has to defend herself? That sounds like something that could be heart-pounding.
As much as I love the accuracy of this film to the comics, I also very much enjoy the departures. Here's to hoping that they take their time with Robin and any potential Batfamily and make things feel natural, make things feel fresh yet familiar.
