OK, so we all know about Doomsday from DC is, but let me give you a description if your memory is faulty. He was a experimented on as a toddler by a scientist hoping to create the ultimate life form. For many years he repeatedly instantly killed the child and brought him back to life over and over, stimulating evolution and giving Doomsday a hate for all life. Eventually, due to the evolution and optimization, he became the ultimate lifeform that he is today, and also gained the ability that he comes back to life after death by himself, and can't be killed by anything he's been killed by before then he escapes and kills people and the rest is history.
Now notice the bolded statements. They suggest why Doomsday's name is as is right? I always thought that it was because of his power, bloodlust, ability of resurrection and invulnerability to previous killers. I thought it meant the day that everything had killed Doomsday, would be the doomsday, as he is invulnerable, angry, and very very powerful, enough so to kill all life. This would make his name symbolic and clever, and it was one of my favourite names of a character while I thought this was the explanation.
WELL YOU WOULD BE WRONG
I was reading Comicvine for Doomsday a few months back, and I saw the real story for his name. Apparently, when Doomsday came to the Earth for the first time, he beat up Guy Gardner and his friends really badly, and when they ran away, Guy Gardner said "It was like the arrival of Doomsday". That's literally it. No cleverness, no symbolism, no thought whatsoever, just a random quote from Guy Gardner about him gave him his name.
Someone needs to retcon this right now. Because the current canon for his name is so dumb and simple. Doomsday had so much to work with for his name's etymology, and yet the writers decided to forgo deciding a clever reason for his name and went the lazy route. Rant over.
