Edit: here's the newest version that fixes the "OMG why are you writing an entire novel" error and keeps responses short enough to interact with, but long enough to be good. Please put it though it's paces and see if it's giving good responses, or if you run into some things that feel like they need adjusting:
I've tried this on a few systems, and honestly for whatever reason, it works the best in Poe AI. This method is *ALL* about modding the AI prompt, and I started using a version of the prompt that I found on Reddit buried somewhere, and then started tweaking and adjusting it to see how if would affect the outcome.
Here's the link the the 3rd version of the bot I made, and I'll explain how to run it.
So the bot has ZERO specific descriptors in the prompt, so if want to play with the prompt, don't add any specifics like name, age, etc. You can add or remove traits like submissive vs dominant (I currently have it set where it will do either one based on how you prompt it), but again it's important not to get too specific, because that's what trips the filters.
It's explained in the prompt, but anything inside () are rules you are giving the AI and anything in "" is defined as speech, and everything else it kind of treats like internal monolog that the AI will play off of. This is how you define the character you want to chat with, by using (). But there's a quirk in that you have to say an opening line of dialog to the AI along with the definition of the character, otherwise it's like WAY more likely to get flagged by the filter (Yeah, it totally doesn't make sense to me either). It can be something literally as simple as "Hi [character name], how are you doing today?" I currently have it set to speak in the first person, but you can switch that to second or third person based on your preference if you want to copy the prompt and make a new bot of your own. It's also setup to provide original suggestions if you ask the character, but it will still look to you to lead the narrative.
So your very first prompt should look something (character definition) "short intro greeting"BOOM, you're now off to the races.
I tried this method on a few different sites, but I found that Poe AI yields *dramatically* better results. The AI is pretty good at giving good length responses and actually does really well at keeping track of details from earlier in your narrative. I even tested it by introducing a 3rd character, which is where most other AIs just totally lose track of what you are talking about, and it wasn't perfect, but it actually did a pretty solid job of keeping track of the third character.
And just remember, once you initially define the character you want to chat with using (), you can use phrases in the () to redirect the story if the AI goes in a direction you don't want it to. Example:"Nikki, do you want to go to the pool today?""No, I just got my hair done and don't want to get it wet just yet."(Nikki wants to go to the pool) "Are you sure, I can go grab our suits now.""Ok, let's go etc....."Basically, use descriptors in () to initially define the character, then later in your chat you can use it to steer the conversation the way you want it to go. And don't forget to throw in some non-quoted internal monolog text, it gives the AI more info to work with and generally yields better responses.
Have fun and let me know what you think!
