Why does the chainsaw devil (nearly) erase other devils from existence?
TLDR THEORY: chainsaws represent mankind's destruction of nature. Just as mankind erases entire ecosystems with chainsaws, chainsaw devil removes what it consumes from existence.
I was trying to think of why chainsaw man would have this ability, and while I read theories about chainsaws being associated with destroying monsters because of pop culture/movies, I felt like it had to have a deeper meaning. Chainsaws have historically been used for deforestation, where we uproot entire ecosystems and replace them with concrete and asphalt - essentially removing nature from existence. That's exactly what the devil does - it embodies the fear of erasure.
I think this would tie well into a greater philosophical theme of using our destructive power to erase our own demons from existence (nuclear bombs, Nazis, etc) which seems very up fujimoto's alley.
It got me thinking - what if devils are a composite of not just human fears but ALL fears. That would explain why chainsawman is still powerful despite the fan base, and explain why primal fears such as darkness or hunger are so powerful - and why the chainsaw can go toe-to-toe with them. The fear of all living creatures hearing a chainsaw in the distance, knowing that their home, their family, and livelihood, is all ending soon.
What do you guys think? Is a chainsaw too abstract for the ways humanity erases nature?
