Hi
So I have an activity requirement coming up soon. Just wondering if they'll let me do like an online course instead of work for the dole? I've done work for the dole a number of times before and was used and abused by businesses who fail to understand that i am a volunteer, not a person they can milk and abuse for free labour.
There are a couple of things you can do. But firstly if you are required to do a work for the dole activity, you are not a volunteer, it is a requirement and the work for the dole host can use you in any way that is obviously legal and you have the skills to perform duties that pertain to their business.
Now that’s out of the way, there are activities that your job network provider can put you in like online courses. There are a number of Cert III options that an external training provider like Allfie offer. Most job network providers are connected with Allfie so I would advise to speak to your job coach about their options at your next appt.
Now clearly I do not know you or your circumstances and please do not take this as anything other than advice, but let’s just say that you have some mental health barriers that you need to address. You can hook up with your local GP and discuss with them to get you on a mental health plan. In the Centrelink requirement world it is called interventions. You will need to provide proof of enrolment with the mental health facilitator but this will negate any need to do a work for the dole activity whether it be actual work for the dole or doing an online course. The department sees this as a suitable activity as you are trying to get your health in order to obtain full time employment.
I wish you the best
