Long story but I’m trying to help a young bloke out (son of a friend of mine who passed away 6 years ago) who contacted me out of the blue a couple of months ago. He’s 19 and been couch surfing since the death of his father. His mother is an addict. It’s taken a while to get anything out of him but basically, he’s never worked and never registered for any job search/unemployment benefits. He’s living in a shit environment and really struggling I’ve offered him a room and I’m looking for work for him. I’m in a small southwest town 4hrs away from him. There’s always work here over the summer period….my question is, do Centrelink provide any sort of emergency payments in a case like this? I’m an age pensioner so things are a bit tight for me. Apologies for the lengthy explanation for a one line question.
