I'd spent the Christmas holiday at home with my family, like I did every year. Sure, I was a world-famous celebrity; but when your mom says you'll be home on December 25th, you listen. It wasn't exactly the same going back to the house where I grew up to eat too much and open presents, but overall it was always a positive experience. I never did any work while I was there - no emails, no phone calls, nothing.

But of course, being at home with your parents and siblings isn't a cakewalk. And nobody there treated me like I was anything special. I still got asked to clear the table or take out the trash, and I still had to share a bathroom with my sister.

So when I left the house after the holiday was over, I never went straight back to LA. No, I needed real private time to recharge. And so, I always booked my plane ticket to visit my cabin for a little while before I got back to the real world.

The cabin was one of the best purchases I'd ever made. It was deep in the woods outside Denver, five miles off the highway. In a serious snow storm it would be cut off from the world. It had two rooms and an old wood stove to cook on. People didn't think of me as a rustic kind of girl, but my week there after Christmas was the most relaxing time of my year.

This year though, things were different. I wasn't going to the cabin alone. I was bring a guy. Strike that: two guys. My year had revolved around my relationship status. I'd fallen for two men at the same time, and hadn't wanted to end either one. I'd never lied, and neither one had ever told me he wanted to be exclusive. Finally, I'd asked if they'd ever want to do something together. All three of us. And to my surprise and delight, they'd said yes. My guys were arriving in 12 hours. I needed to get the Christmas decorations up and unpack the pajamas and underwear I'd packed for the trip. I'd never been more excited to be in my cabin!
