TL;DR: why does A. californica no longer occur naturally in Mendocino County?
I recently moved from Contra Costa County to Mendocino County. I brought with me a few A. californica that I had been growing in pots while living in CC County. After searching on both CalFlora and iNaturalist, I learned that the plant range extends into Sonoma County, but not Mendocino County, except for one observation on CalFlora dated 1897.
My question is, what has caused A. californica's range to shift and what prevents it from growing in Mendocino County? The climate seems similar enough to Sonoma County. Is it from habitat disturbance, particularly along waterways?
Any insight is greatly appreciated!
