People who have several thousand CDs or more, how did that happen? How do you choose them?

Post Body

So, I just did a full and very thorough cataloguing of my CDs because I was no longer sure what I actually owned and didn't want to re-purchase a CD. It turns out I have exactly 580 CDs right now after about 35 years collecting (another couple hundred LPs). So, I've got about 800 albums (more or less). I know I'd have double if money had never been any object. So, let's say I like about 1600 albums well enough to purchase. How do you wind up with 5000? Do you even listen to them all? Is it just dollar bin stuff? Is this your profession? Or something else?
